FLOEM INFUSION SYSTEM
World’s First Plant Stem Infusion System for Cannabis
Over the past 4 years, our scientific team has conducted extensive research on plant stem infusion in collaboration with the University of Ljubljana’s Biotechnical Faculty, Department for Agronomy, and GT Industry, a professional cannabis cultivator.
We have summarized our findings in a technical Whitepaper which you can download below. We will be publishing our findings in an academic journal in early 2024, stay tuned!
Order your very own Floem Demo Kit and try out stem infusion on your grow!
Submit your request in the form below and we’ll get back to you with a quote.
The kit includes a complete infusion system for 10 plants, out of the box.
The list price of the kit is 499,00€ + shipping, first batch ships in December 2023.
By increasing production per surface, Floem effectively decreases the significant environmental impact associated with indoor cultivation.
Independent Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) and Climate Impact Forecast (CIF) showed that implementing Floem on a medium-sized operation prevents 369 tons of CO2 from being released, an equivalent to driving a car around the world 46 times!
This seems like sci-fi, does it really work?
The concept of plant stem infusion is not new and has been demonstrated a number of times in scientific research on agricultural crops, but never before on cannabis. The plant stem infusion studies unanimously demonstrated major benefits of stem infusion in corn, soybean, chickpeas potatoes, and other crops, particularly in terms of production yield. We have taken those concepts and optimized the technology, handling approach, and growth medium formulation throughout numerous development and validation cycles over the past 4 years.
What’s included in the demo kit and how much does it cost?
The purpose of the kit is for the growers to get some hands-on experience with the system on a smaller scale, before taking it to production.
The kit includes:
The price of the demo kit is 499,00€ (+ shipping), the first batch ships in December 2023!
Why is stem infusion better than traditional methods?
The stem infusion approach differs massively from conventional nutrient delivery methods, which are mostly root absorption-based. In contrast, stem infusion is not limited to the selective permeability (absorption) by the plant’s root system, absorption dynamics, peristaltic root flows, and other limitations associated with irrigation-based techniques. This allows stem infusion to introduce a wide spectrum of micro- and macronutrients directly into the plant that would not otherwise be taken up via roots. Furthermore, stem infusion is much more efficient at nutrient delivery than root uptake, since nutrients are injected directly into the plant as opposed to soil retention that occurs with root delivery.
That being said, Floem can work together seamlessly with traditional cultivation! In fact, Floem is intended to work as an add-on to standard cultivation conditions.
Will Floem boost the yield of my grow?
Is Floem safe to use on my grow?
Plant safety has always been our foremost priority. As evidence of our commitment, the growth medium we utilize is formulated exclusively from high-quality ingredients, all of which are naturally present in cannabis plants. Not only have we noted no adverse effects on a qualitative basis, but we’ve also conducted physiological measurements in partnership with the University of Ljubljana, considering aspects such as photosynthesis, respiration, root mass, whole plant mass, and leaf mass, and found no detrimental impact. An added advantage of our approach was that plants required less frequent watering due to enhanced hydration (qualitative observation).
However, if not executed with care, there is a possibility of physically damaging the plants with improper handling of the initial injection (e.g. damaged side branch, broken leaf), but this issue can be quickly overcome with proper onboarding. We are also developing tools to simplify this step and mitigate this risk.
How long does it take to set up Floem?
Floem is designed to provide the cultivators with a user-friendly, smooth setup process. Even though the system only needs to be set up once during the growth cycle, there is some effort necessary. Based on our internal evaluations (3 different cultivation sites), we project setting up Floem takes approximately 1-2 minutes per plant, per growth cycle. This means that it would take two people approx. 4-8h to equip 500 plants.
Can you provide some references?
We have conducted two comprehensive scientific studies to date, one with the private cannabis cultivator GT Industry and the second with the University of Ljubljana (Biotechnical Faculty, Department for Agronomy). Please see the Whitepaper (available for download above) for more details on the results obtained.
To the best of our knowledge, no similar research has been conducted on the cannabis plant in scientific or broader literature. We are pioneering this technology for application in the cannabis plant, while also representing the first commercial stem infusion solution on the market.
Do you provide any additional support or onboarding?
Our commitment to our customers goes beyond transactional interactions. We believe that their success echoes our own, and thus, we are dedicated to offering comprehensive support, even if it necessitates on-site system implementation and onboarding. This commitment was exemplified in both scientific studies, wherein we actively collaborated on-site with our partner growers throughout their grow cycles on a daily basis.
